If you have two partitions then XP is located on the C: drive. You need to
ensure that the second partition is large enough to take Vista (around 15 to
20GB) and then Vista will ask where you want to install Vista (this is a
clean install 'not' an upgrade. The screen you are looking for is 'where do
you want to install Windows?' This should be screen 8 of the installation.
I suppose the easiest way to go about it is to boot to XP and then go to My
Computer. Right click on the drive you want to install Vista on and change
the drives name to Vista - at least then when the relevant screen appears
during installation you will know which partition you should be using for
Vista.
I've been trying to write an illustrated guide to installing Vista but, at
the moment, Microsoft are constantly updating the screens which makes it
rather difficult, as the screenshots i have taken are somewhat different to
the current build.

I'll package the screenshots i have up and send them to you, so you have a
roughe pictorial guide of the screen sequences of installation.
