Hi,

my prob is : I can't see anybody in "network places" with win2k, even if I
can ping every one and i can go trought microsoft network. Is there
somebody what I should do for being able to see the other computer on the
network and allow me having access to a printer share on the win98 machine ?

I'm logging as "agent1" who is a member of the administrator group.

Thanks

Make sure that you do not have a software firewall on that computer blocking access
to inbound lan, that Client for Microsoft Networks is installed/enabled, that the
Workstation service is running, that the network address is the same as the other
computers as shown via ipconfig /all which would be the octets that correspond to
..255 in the subnet mask [ for example an address of 192.168.2.44 with a subnet mask
of 255.255.255.0 would indicate a network address of 192.168.2.0 ] and that netbios
over tcp/ip is enabled in tcp/ip properties/advanced/wins. --- Steve

this is exctly the setting I have but there's still nobody in the network
place. And I have no firewall at all installed yet.

Does the W2K computer itself at least show in My Network Places? You might also try
booting into safe mode with networking to see if it makes any difference and verify
that you can connect to the other computers via unc as in \\computername\sharename or
\\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\sharename where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is lan IP address of target
computer if name does not work. Also verify that the computer name for the W2K is 15
characters or less in length and that the names are registering by being shown in
nbtstat -n. Netbios scopes could also cause a problem with network browsing though
that is not something that would be configured in any default installation. --- Steve

no nothing is shown, even the w2k machine. when I try to connect to the
other PC with explorer using \\ipaddress I've access to all the shares
folder but I don't have access to the printer in the traditionnal way to
install a network printer.

Hmm. Did you try booting into safe mode with networking for a while? Are there any
error/warning messages in Event Viewer. Try renaming the W2K computer and description
using less than ten conventional characters and uninstalling then reinstalling the
Client for Microsoft Networks after a reboot. Verify that the tcp/ip netbios helper
service is set to automatic and started as is the dns client service. If possible
paste a ipconfig /all and nbtstat -n in a reply. --- Steve
