Hi. I am having trouble with multi level numbering. I started out with

1
1.1
1.1.1

system but I wanted to have a dot at the end of each number so used
numbering menu (right click) to select 1.1. 2.1. 3.1.

Then the numbering turned into:

1.
2.
1.1.
2.1.
3.
1.1.
2.1.

But I want to have it as follows:

1.
2.
2.1.
2.2.
3.
3.1.
3.2.

Can you tell me how I can change it like this? Don't forget the dot at the
end of each number as well as between them.

Thanks.

Assuming that you are using Word 2007, do the following: Place the insertion
point in the first level 1 paragraph of the list, and then click Home tab |
Multilevel List | Define New Multilevel List to open the numbering dialog
box. For each level of numbering, type in the period in the "Enter
formatting for number" box.

If the above doesn't help, delete the contents of the "Enter formatting for
number" box for each level and rebuild it from start; use "Number style for
this level" to add the number for the selected level, and use "Include level
number from" to add higher level numbers. Type in the periods. Be sure to
make use of the "Restart list after" option properly (you may have to click
the More button to see this option).

When you are done, click OK.

Thank you, Stefan.
I works!
