Is it possible to use one of the new HP Multi-function
printers (connected via USB of course) to print locally
when connected to TS?

I've read somewhere about changing the driver and such
but also read this removes all the multifuntionality of
the device.

Any way I can have it map this printer AND use it as a
multi-function device?

Multifunction printers have always been a problem with
terminal services. The main problem is with the driver,
since most multifunction printers don't have drivers that
are compatible with terminal services. The only drivers
that do work with the terminal server are generic driver,
like the HP LaserJet 4 driver, but just as you are
probably thinking, this generic driver doesn't allow multi-
function printers to be...multifunctional. Heh.

Your best bet here is to try out the driver and experiment
to see how it works. Some drivers work better than
others. Some can crash your system, so as always, it is
recommended that you try this out on a non-production
system to see how it works.

I came across an HP6110 I just could not get working but I have gotten the
5000 series MFC to work. I often take the risk of loading the s/w on the
server for some, others just the drivers and edit the ntprint.inf so I
simply tell clients to go with plain jane HP laserjets otherwise my time to
make MFC work is simply going to outweigh their allin1 savings.

The customer has a 5000 series. Should I just load the
software for it on the server then?

I have several client using USB style printers on their
Terminal Servers and now HP has come out with base mode
drivers to fix this issue. You will not be able to scan or
fax but it at least gives you the complete ability to
print. If you have several clients connecting to this
server from the outside and using USB style printers i
hightly recommend a program called ScrewDrivers. It allows
all USB printers to function through TS.
