Hi out there...

We're moving and I'm being forced to get rid of 2-3 of my little "sandbox"
PCs but I have removed all the hard drives and was going to swap them out as
I fiddle around with different software/hardware/etc.

Multi-Boot just popped in my mind... can one partition a (say 20g) "C:" into
4 5g partitions... set one up for Win98se, one for Win2000, one for XP and
one for Linux??

If any/all of this is possible... how would I set such a drive up? If I
need to declare a "default"... I'd opt for Win2000.

Thanks in advance!
Steve

Thanks Bruce...

All your detail is MUCH APPRECIATED!! I'll check your URLs and try to get
"smart" on the process... might even have to "unpack" one of my PCs (and
carry in car) before the mover arrives!

Just from a quick read... and from Dave Patrick's response... multi-Windows
is a plan but doesn't include LINUX? Not a problem tho... I can go back to
my "original plan" of swapping hard drives.

But I do have a couple of additional questions now...
1. I assume the C: partition "controls" the boot process?? Does that
mean that if I reformat the C: partition... and reload Win98se (oldest Win
I'd want)... that I'd "lose" the ability to boot to the (D:) Win2000 and the
(D:) WinXP partitions??? Reason is... my "play time" includes loading
various applications to see if they are useful... or to load up a
"Win-whatever" environment to try to duplicate someone's problem... etc.
When done with "whatever I'm doing" now... I reformat the hard drive and
re-install one of the Windows!?
2. Rats... forgot 2nd question... guess I reformatted my brain too... oh
well... next time

Greetings --

You're welcome.

That's correct, the C: drive is the Primary Active (bootable)
partition. If you format the C: drive, you'll also destroy the
multi-boot capability. You can, however, then use Win2K's or WinXP's
Recovery Console to repair/rebuild this.

MS-MVP Doug Knox has provided easy-to-follow guidelines for this:
