I live in Japan, and I recently bought a computer with XP
Pro (Japanese) installed. From what I'd read of the
English pages about XP Pro, I thought I'd be able to
change it to English using the MUI, while my wife would be
able to use it in her native language, Japanese. Wrong--
turns out non-English versions have no MUI for the OS. I
checked some MS-Japan pages for more info (with help from
a native speaker) and one page had a Q&A, one of which
said that there is a way to get MUI for Japanese XP
Pro...but it didn't say *how*! Argh! Is there anyone who
can tell me how to get MUI without buying the English
version of XP Pro? Thank you.

The Windows XP MUI is not available through retail
channels. Full details on
1) Windows Multilanguage User Interface (MUI) Version,
2) Windows XP Professional Language Interface Pack (LIP)
at the Windows MUI/LIP Knowledge Center

Thanks, Jan. I've been looking that site over, and
unfortunately, it's the usual Microsoftese: it never
clearly answers the question: can I get it or not, and if
so, how? But it looks like probably not. So, do I shell
out *another* couple hundred bucks for English Windows
XP, or do I just finally switch to Linux?
