Does anybody know what mstask.exe really does? Why does
it constantly attempt to access the internet? Jow does it
override my firewall settings in ZoneAlarm?

Thanks!

Actual question involves why task manager needs to access
the internet/act as server?
thanks again

It's the task scheduler.

Paul - thanks for responding. I know it schedules tasks
on the machine but why does it need to access the
internet? -or am I just seeing it do so in response to
some other program attempting to access?

My software firewall doesn't show any requests for mstask to access the
Internet so I would guess it's a job being run that is instigating the
request.

Did you look at scheduled tasks when the request is made to see what is
trying to run?

We all must be assuming that the OP's mstask is in fact the _real_ one
and not malware.

Task Scheduler can look outside the box to other LAN machines...
