After having a problem accessing any removable drives, I
foolishly decided to repair Windows. When the repair
program reaches a certain point, it can't find the file
MSRedist.msi and asks me to find it. I can't find it
anywhere, even on the Microsoft web site. Where is it
supposed to be?

When I cancel out of this file, everything loads properly
until it trys to setup the start menu where the system
hangs, not crashes.

Anyone know what's going on?

I think this is part of a Norton product. Did you have Norton AV or
anything on the system? If so, reinstalling it may help.

I agree that was my initial problem, and I didn't find out
until too late. I foolishly tried to repair Windows2000
and now can't get past the start-menu setup at the end of
the repair. I'm wondering if the missing msi file has
anything to do with the hangup, and, if so, where can I
get it. I apparently loaded it with some of my other
software because it is not a part of the Windows disk.

Had the same problem.. put in your Norton Antivius disk
and navitage to the msredist directory.. this should fix
the problem

I had the same problem, except that it didn't hang in trying to se
up the start menu. However, each time I start an application, WI
2000 tries to find installation files.
A temporary, not very elegant, workaround is to cancel this dialo
box several times
Anyone knows how to fix this problem?
Thanks in advance

In previous posts, MSRedist.msi was actually an installation package included
with the Norton anti-virus product. Normally browsing on the Norton AV CD would
allow you to find the installation package. I found it mentioned in a search
at: http://www.eggheadcafe.com/ng/microsoft.public.win2000.msi/post291159.asp.

Apparently during your repair you deleted all of your cached .MSI files. You
should run a product repair for each product in Add/Remove Programs (go to
support info link and then click on the repair button). This will cause a
recache of the installation package.

Hope this helps,

Same problem happened here after updating a windows 2000 OS.

MSRedist.msi can be found under /support/redist/ on the Norto
Systemworks 2004 CD.

I am letting the Windows Installer find the MSI files it is looking fo
and it seems to be fixing the problem. Has not asked for MSRedis
again.

Who ever said the Internet serves no purpose?!

Thanks to those in the know
