I cannot get the personalization feature on MSNBC.com which I use as
my "Home Page" to stick. I can personalize all the settings and they
stay for the present session. On exiting and later restarting
NSNBC.COM , I once again need to enter my zip code etc. to look at the
personalized settings which are lost on exit as a continuing cycle.
I'm using:
Windows 2000 Pro Version 5.0 (Build 2195), Service Pack (4) and all
current updates.
Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 6.0.2800 Service Pack (1) and all
current updates
Norton Antivirus 2006
Zone Alarm Pro Version 6.5.737.000
What I have done to date:
Checked the Help function on MSNBC.com and followed instructions.
Personalized settings don't stay: If you do not accept cookies, you
will not be able to personalize MSNBC. You will lose your personalized
settings if you delete your MSNBC cookies. If you have deleted your
cookies, re-enter your zip code and stock information to return
personalization to the MSNBC front cover. Old content on web site: You
may have old content cached (saved) in your browser's temporary file
folder. To clear your Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) browser's
cache:1. Close all browser windows then open Internet Explorer (IE).2.
Click on "Tools" in the browser's menu bar.3. Select "Internet Options
.." from the drop-down menu which opens the Internet Options window.4.
Select "Delete Files. " from the "Temporary Internet files" section on
theGeneral tab.5. In the Delete Files window, click on the "Delete all
offline content" check box and then click"Ok".6. Close browser window
and then reopen your browser
I have reported this to MSNBC,com for Technical Help and so far have
received replies from three different help assistants. The first reply
suggested I contact Netscape.com. He was so smart he didn't read I was
using Internet Explorer. The second reply merely repeated the
suggestions listed under help. The other replies were equally
unhelpful. The quality of the help assistants tends to show that they
can't provide any concrete help but simply repeat the standard list.
I have additionally reinstalled Internet Explorer, Gone into the
options section of Norton Antivirus and disabled any function related
to my home page. If I check the Documents and Settings section the
MSNBC cookies are there but apparently not being read. If I delete
them and try again they reappear. What's odd is that if I try and
personalize and enter my zip code then update the settings, my basic
information exists. I can "Save and Exit". And everything os OK for
tat session. On leaving MSNBC.com or closing the browser, everything
is lost and it's necessary to redo the whole thing again.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what makes the personalization
stick from session to session?
