Hi,
I know this isn't the best place to post this, but I can't get any help
from Symantec, or any other newsgroup, so I'm trying anyway.
I can't play MSN Video at all with Norton Firewall 2002. I have
deleted it and reinstalled it. If I disable NFW, I can run the video and
even
reenable it and continue to run it. I can run all other videos and don't
have any other problems except that when AIM starts, it opens and then
closes. It requires that I start it manually. If I disable NFW first in
"msconfig", AIM starts and remains on the desktop. I am running a 2 month
old Dell computer Dimension 4600, so there's not that much here yet.Anyone
else see this sort of behavior?
Thanks,
John

Hi, John.

I haven't tried to do what you are trying, but I've run into weird problems
at several sites (Windows Update, Office Update, and others) that go away
when I disable Norton Internet Security 2004. But it worries me to be
online with NIS disabled, and with ADSL, I'm always online.

After trying lots of things, I finally found that the secret was in the
settings for Privacy Control, of all things! How UNintuitive is that?! Not
in Firewall settings; not in antivirus or security or intrusion detection,
but in Privacy. Anyhow, if I go to Privacy Control | Configure | Advanced,
Add the website that I'm trying to get the updates from, and then adjust the
settings for Information about your browser and for Cookies - it works!

I used Norton's 2002 programs, but I don't recall whether these settings
were in there. But if you explore NFW for a while, looking in some
unexpected corners, you may find the setting you need to change. By the
way, I finally found the answer for my problem by searching on the Symantec
Website: www.symantec.com Have you tried there?

Hello,
Thanks for spending so much time and effort on this problem. I poked
around and changed everything I could imagine in IE Privacy; allowing all
cookies and adding the webpage that was trying to start the MSN Video, but
still can't get it to work. I also tried to find something in NFW to
change, but to no avail. Maybe I am forced to go out and buy the latest
version. But my version is paid up until Dec. '04. But I know I can get it
for free wiht rebates at Comp or Officemax etc. I can disable the Firewall
for just a few seconds while i start the video, and then I can reenable it
and still be able to run the videos as long as I'm on that page. I have been
to symantac.com but I think that the MSN Video is so new that I couldn't
find any reference to it. Anyway thanks so much for your input.
John
