Hey...

I have windows xp pro, I use dialup and a lan.

I run MSN 6 mainly, but because I have two accounts I
often use Windows Messenger that came with my computer.
Recently, Windows Messenger has not been opening, I have
checked to see if it is installed and looked in
services.msc and everything seems to be alright there...

Does anyone know why its not working!?

Thnks,

Jeremy

Greetings Jeremy,

If you open up the Task Manager (press Ctrl-Alt-Del or right-click on an unused part of the
taskbar and choose Task Manager), choose the Processes tab, and look for msmsgs.exe
entries -- do you see any?

If you don't, try downloading and running these .reg files:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/enablewindowsmessenger_user.reg
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/enablemessenger.reg
After this, reboot and see if you can load Windows Messenger.

If you do see it, do you have Norton Antivirus 2003 installed? Norton added a new "instant
messaging scanning" feature to Norton Antivirus 2003, which can conflict with Messenger and
cause some of this behavior. To stop it, open Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the Norton
Antivirus icon in the System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open Norton
Antivirus'), click Options, then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger and
click OK.
