Hi all,

After months of use with no problems MSN Messenger 7.5 has started failing
on launch, with the message "Messenger has encountered a problem and needs to
close....".

It happens about 5 seconds into it seeking to connect.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled 7.5, then installed 8.0 (same problem) -
no joy. However, an old copy of windows messenger opens just fine.
Interestingly, I get booted out of it when 7.5 trys to open, so something
must be getting through.

I have run AVG virus check and Ad-Aware plus Spybot - didn't fix it. At the
same time my webcam software gave the same message - I completely uninstalled
that to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

The exact thing has begun happening to me, plus when I click user account in
control panel the window appears but all informations blank. I tried device
manager that closes with an error, I have even tried system restore to no
avail.

So if anyone can help, please do.

Cheers

Shaz

Same here, installed 8, crashes as soon as you log in. Uninstalled and
installed 7.5 same thing... Now having to use windows messenger....

Help!

For some reason mine is no longer doing this. I assume an automatic upgrade
has corrected it. Go figure.

****Try deleting the "Policies" key from the registry(export the key t
the desktop first. That way, if this does not solve your problem, yo
can double click the key to re-import it and not have to recreate you
user policies):-

Close MSN Messenger
Start, Run, Regedit (enter).
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger
Delete the "Policies" Key
Close registry, start MSN and try again! Good luck.***
