I have recently tried to use the application sharing and i get a
window that says waiting, that is as far as it gets. Has anyone
else experienced this problem? does anyone else know how to fix
it?
I do application sharing often as possible with my MSN contacts.
Application Sharing through the MSN menu is the least reliable in my
experience. There are several routes you can take, but I would just
setup NetMeeting and avoid messing around.
Unlike the other ways (Application Sharing is obviously based mostly
on NetMeeting code anyway), NetMeeting always works and it's already
there.
.... Start -- Run -- enter "conf" without the quotes -- OK
The settings are presented the first time it starts and really don't
matter much if at all, but this is the way I tell it.
.... On the first set up page, enter fake information on the first
three lines and leave the last two lines blank.
.... Yes do not list name in directory, and No do not log on to
directory server.
.... Do not start NetMeeting when Windows starts, their choice about
putting an icon on the desktop.
.... Modem settings, a simple choice between dial-up or cable/DSL.
.... Just click through the audio set up until you get to the
"NetMeeting, Not in a Call" window.
.... look in Help -- about Windows NetMeeting, type your IP address
into the MSN window, and ask them to call you by clicking on the
telephone icon.
If you're doing significant stuff through NetMeeting, notice the
menu selection that allows you full-screen view, if their screen
resolution is at least as great as yours.
If you aren't technically inclined enough to give those
instructions, maybe you should try Remote Assistance. It might work
and it's apparently more advanced. Besides the inconsistency, I
don't like all of the screen space it takes up with menus.
You might be able to find an easier way to do application
sharing via one of the other two Microsoft routes, but it probably
won't work with other users. It's very inconsistent.
Good luck.
