I cannot get msn messenger to stop enabling itself on my
startup. I run msconfig and unclick it then restart,
that solves the problem for a little while then all of a
sudden it is starting back up when I restart the p.c.. I
thought I read something about this problem before but
cannot find anything on this now.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thankyou

Go into your MSN Messenger Options
and then click on the General tab,
and then uncheck the "Automatically run Messenger when I log on to Windows"

Greetings Charles,

Simply using MSConfig won't remove it if the option is not unselected in Messenger. To do
so, open up the main Messenger window, click the Tools menu, then Options, then Preferences
tab, uncheck 'Run this program when Windows starts' or 'Run Windows Messenger when Windows
starts' (depending on what version you're running) and click OK.

If you're using MSN Messenger 5 or 6, click the Tools menu, then Options, then General tab,
uncheck 'Automatically run Messenger when I log on to Windows' and click OK.

If it still loads when Windows starts, do you have Norton Antivirus 2003 installed? Norton
added a new "instant messaging scanning" feature to Norton Antivirus 2003, which can conflict
with Messenger and cause this behavior. To stop it, open Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the
Norton Antivirus icon in the System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open
Norton Antivirus'), click Options, then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger
and click OK.
