MSN Mess 6.1 starts up on boot-up

I don't want the MSN Messenger starting up without me
telling it to, nor do I want it running in the background
upon boot up.

I have unchecked it from the MSCONFIG applet, and have
disabled it and stopped it in the Services. But when the
(my second computer on my network) boots up, it shows the
window that says that I, on my first computer has logged
on.

I don't want to uninstall it because we use it on the
second computer too. How do I stop it?

Thanks

Greetings,

MSConfig won't do it and disabling the "Messenger" service has nothing to do with MSN
Messenger. Simply open up the main Messenger window, click the Tools menu, then Options,
then General tab, uncheck 'Automatically run Messenger when I log on to Windows' and click
OK.

I have a similar problem. I do not want messenger to open
when I open MSN. I don't want friends to im me when I
have work to do (and don't want to block them)I have tried
the Options-general tab. The "Automatically run messenger
when I log on to windows" is NOT checked. The second
line "open messenger in main window when messenger
starts", is checked, but can't be unchecked unless one of
the other options are checked, and the others don't seem
applicable. Maybe another option would be opening
messenger while appearing "offline"? Is there a way to do
this?
Thank You
LeeAnn

Hi LeeAnn,

I assume you mean MSN Explorer/MSN8/MSN9? Unfortunately Messenger starts with "MSN"
regardless of what options you have and there is presently no way to change this. There is
no option to login as "appear offline" within the current Messenger versions.

I'm not running MSN Explorer. But the MSN Messenger on my
computer still shows that the other computer is on-line,
even tho the program is closed. MSMSGS is listed in the
Task Manager. Do I have to uninstall MSN Messenger even
tho I've never used it on this computer?
