MSN logging out

Hi.
I'm using Windows Messenger (XP), and I have it on permanently seeing as I
have broadband.
I've noticed that in the last 2 -3 weeks, for some reason I keep getting
logged out.
I don't always know about it because if my status is away and I've been
logged out, the window doesn't change and it appears that I'm connected
until my mouse passes over the messenger window, or I get an email from a
friend saying I'm logged off. It happens about 3 or 4 times a day.
Does anyone have any ideas on this please?
Thanx
Jen

Greetings Jen,

Here are a few suggestions that may help you fix this --
If you're using a router, make sure you have the latest firmware from your router
manufacturer. As well, you might try setting your computers local IP into the routers DMZ
setting (see documentation on how to do this).

This can also happen due to a lack of bandwidth. If you have Kazaa, WinMX, GNUtella or some
other file sharing-type application or something else that takes considerable amounts of
bandwidth, you may want to shut it down and see if that helps the situation (even if you're
using a high speed connection, these applications can use most of the resources of your
connection).

Finally, you might try using MSN Messenger 6, which has some new features to stop this from
happening:

Jonathan,

I wrote this in another post earlier this weekend and find this happening
too.. Now I don't use a router and the IP I have from the ADSL service is
assigned to me.... I can even be away from the machine when it signs me out
because 'I have signed in at another location'. It doesn't take email or
passing over anything with the mouse... I can be reading an article on the
net... and it will do this approx. every 15 minutes on some nights.

I check the Task Manager and only msn6 is running.... the task bar shows
only the one icon...

Tonite I took the liberty of changing my .net password.... in case someone I
know was using my sign in or ?? (just cma) Don't know what to make of it..
It started happening about 10 days ago and even restoring to an earlier date
in July didn't help this issue....

Just for the record... if more complaints come in....
