msn log recovery

I need to recover the log of a MSN conversation that my child was involved
in. It has led to a fight at school and possible expultion.

The version of msn is an old one with no log facility, can I either recover
the log from my computer or request a copy from msn?

If you're using a version of Messenger without the message history (aka Windows Messenger)
and didn't have a tool installed, it was not saved. It was removed from memory as soon as
that window was closed.

Even if Microsoft has a copy of the conversation, they'll only release it in exceptional
matters and only then through police (or similarly).
