For some time now... I haven't been able to figure out why the msn home page
can't display the portion on the screen just under the mymsn hotmail
messenger holidays area. I have mcafee and it is up to date. I have spybot,
spysweeper, adaware, hijack this cwschredder and a few others and have
constantly checked for spyware etc. I have an open case with microsoft and
worked this problem for 5 hours one sunday morning... we reregistered a slew
of dll's to correct this issue. When I first noticed the problem, I noticed
that my add ons had macromedia flash player and when I tried to update it ...
it couldn't ... so I removed it ... and although I went to their site to
install it fresh again, it isn't listed in the current ie add ons. It does
list however, in the other add ons from ie. Does anyone have a clue? Even
Microsft gave up on this one.

I downloaded and installed Mozilla and ensured that the fash add on was
downloaded and installed for the Mozilla browser and the same symptoms
occurred. At this point since both IE and Mozilla have the same symptoms...
I don't believe it is a browser issue... possibly something with the OS or my
firewall or other possible blocking software... but what?

Check all of your security settings in IE. Something might be set a bit too
high -- I've seen a lot of that sort of thing lately. I don't know if people
are manually setting these things or if it's some bit of overprotective
software.

Thanks D. Currie,

All of the security settings were set to default when I had Microsoft on the
line... no difference...

Also, the area I am referring to is simply blank ... only some portions of
the screen occasionally has a page cannot be found message... also ... the
area I am having the problem in should display a red x in it if it can't play
the macromedia clip... but it doesn't. hum, perplexed, dazed, and
confused... any help would be most appreciated !!!

I am seriously considering .. purchasing a new hard drive, adding more ram
and starting fresh with an XP SP2 installation over the Christmas holiday...
but don't really want to...

Wimpy, I spoke a little prematurely... the reset of the winsock fix did
clear up the portions of the screen that did display the infamous page cannot
be displayed. It also worked on the hotmail logon screen as well as the
pages once inside hotmail.. THANKS ! I still am having the macromedia clip
problem..

Clear your temporary internet files.
