HI!!
I try to use the msn voice feature (audio). My computer
has Windows 2000, and I am using the Microsoft 6.0 MSN.
How can I set up the security so that I can use the audio
feature? I belive to have some fire walls to prevent me
from having audio conversations over the msn. Do you have
to have a public IP-address? What is this thing about the
NAT-system that can cause problems:
" Because the IPv4 addressing scheme is not able to
provide enough IP addresses, the information technology
industry was forced to standardize NAT and deploy NAT
products that share IP addresses and Transmission Control
Protocol (TCP)/User Datagram Protocol (UDP) ports. As a
result, some Windows Messenger features-mainly instant
voice and video communications-experience reduced
functionality when used in certain Internet scenarios."????
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!!:)

NAT is commonly used in the consumer grade "firewalls" that most of
use use at home for internet access via dsl or cable - Linksys, D-Link, etc.
I do not know much about the service you are using, however if you are using
one of those nat firewall devices and you only have one computer connected
to the internet, then you might try to ditch the nat device and use a
personal firewall [free ones available foe personal use] on your computer
instead. It will take some expertise to configure your tcp/ip settings and
the firewall, so don't do it without a plan ahead of time. If you have more
than one computer connected to the internet you should contact your ISP
about options for additional ip addresses. I would suggest also posting on
the msn.messenger newsgroup for additional advice. --- Steve
