The difference between Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger
has often been a recurring topic for some time and
Microsoft itself has been largely responsible for causing
this confusion.
Honestly speaking, Windows Messenger 4.7 and MSN Messenger
6 are quite identical in features. The former is XP-
compatible only, while the latter has versions available
for most Windows platforms.
Windows Messenger is also regarded as a corporate instant
messaging (IM) tool, while MSN Messenger is primarily
targeted at the end user, communicating with others over
the Internet.

The last one, for example, notes MSN Messenger cannot
connect to Microsoft Exchange Instant Messaging and the
Communications Service (corporate use).
