Msmsgs removal questions

i put a reply to a 2 year old post..thinking i would get a reply..heres my
orginal post

i did what Jonathan Kay [MVP] said to do..
and it did what ever it did..

heres what i posted and want help with...

Hey Jonathon

i ran that script you said to type in run..
and it removed what ever it does..
i know it did..
because it had a box pop up and files were moving..
heres where i want to ask a few question..

i figured i should restart my computer after running that comand..
because its a good pratice to restart your computer
after removing a program
or adding a program..
even if it don't give that option or tell you to do a restart..

well when i restarted..
i didnt have Msmsgs starting up..
thats a good thing!!..
i looked in Msconfig...
Msmsgs was gone..
THANK GOD!!
but when i did a search for files and folders..
and i did a wild card search (*)
msmsgs*
i got alot of files..
18 total..
i want Msmsgs..messanger OFF!!! my computer totally!
i dont want one little drop of it left on my computer..
i think it's kinda BullSh##..that microsoft didn't have where it could be
removed in ADD and Remove programs..
same with OutLook Express..thats another story for another time..
anyways...
when i ran that little script in the Run box..
should i have run it with RESTORE dissabled?..

why i ask, you say..
because wont it still be on my computer if i ever use a restore point
that was prior....to when i did your little uninstall??
and my next question is...
can i just delete all the things that came up under a wild card search?
and what about the things left behind that were in Blue letters in the
search..

i guess the Blue means its in the restore stuff..
yeah...i want every little last thing that has anything to do with.
Msmsgs messanger off my computer...
even stuff in the registery...
....so i guess my question is...
will i mess up anything deleting all the stuff that came up
during my wild card search...
and how can i get the stuff out of my restore files..

and is there anything else i should delete also...
to totally remove every last little thing of Messenger
i think i aksed that right...

(new for this post)
this is what i'd like to do remove ALL of anything to do with messanger
from my computer..
in the restore stuff..
and in the registry..
all of it !..
 
Greetings Mike,

The blue means it's compressed and this is standard for the uninstall data of Windows
Updates. System Restore files are not shown in a search unless you messed around with the
permissions in the System Volume Information folder.

Messenger is uninstalled and you should be able to remove all traces of msmsgs if you want,
although obviously you will be breaking uninstalling Windows Messenger files via Windows
Update in the Control Panel - although I doubt you care.

thanks for answering on my post..

well your answers kinda a lil confusing..
i have no idea what you mean when you said..

i'll ask my question different and in stages..
i think you get it Jonathon that i dont want any part of messenger on my
computer..
and that i ran the little remove comand in run..

QUESTION
1) say i do a restore to my system tomarrow...
and the restore point is one that was made 4 months ago...
and say i just removed the messenger stuff by running your lil comand in the
run box 4 days ago.....
if i do a restore tomarrow will messenger be right back again...

i'll just start there...
 
Hi,

Yes, if you do a restore Messenger will be back. If you have a problem with that, I suggest
removing all your restore points (turn system restore off) and making a new one (switch it
back on). You can't selectively start deleting files from System Restore points as restoring
back to that point will then just fail anyway.

However, like I said, System Restore files are protected by in the c:\System Volume
Information folder and by default, you shouldn't be able to see them on a standard file
search.

Thanks Jonathan for answering my questions and helping me..

yeah im not a computer wizzard..
guess thats why im here..
i guess having a computer isen't like driving a car..

just turn off the restore...and turn it back on..
and there i go...new restore point...
but before i do that..
i wana know about deletting these MsMSgS files..
so that they wont be there either if i ever do a restore..

i'll list them...
since the lil script thing in run didnt remove them..
yeah all this would have been easier..
if Microsoft would have made this where it could have been removed threw the
ADD AND REMOVE option..

its funny how they think everyone would want this program on thier own
personal computer...

i want to know if removing them will be ok..

then after doing this i'll make a restore point..

yeah to bad i couldent just hit REMOVE..

so is removing any of these going to mess up anything on my computer..

Hi,

As I suspected these are all uninstallation files for Windows Update updates, the service
pack and the installation file that you actually made use of to uninstall it in the first
place.

You may delete all of these now without worry. Like I said before though, none of these have
anything to do with System Restore.
