Win XP Home...
Pls help me kill the messenger....
How can I stop this exe from getting launched ?

It's like that robot in the "Terminator"......
I'd kill it in Task Manager, minutes later it's there again......

It's not a "absolutely required" piece for XP to function, is it ?
Why then does MS insist on running it w/o asking the user then ????

Thanks

Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Services. Right click on Messenger,
select properties and in the Startup Type box, select "Disabled" from the
drop down menu.

You sure ?????
I am talking about msmsgs.exe which I think is "Windows Messenger"

Under services > "Messenger" it says :
"...this service is not related to the Windows Messenger...."

I had it on "Manual" & not running since I got this machine....

Just do this -->

Start --> Run

Type regedit
Hit Enter

go to -->

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi
on\Run

And delete the 'msmsgs.exe ' key

or

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersio
n\Run

depending on where it is stored on your computer

1. In OE6, set it so that Messenger doesn't start when OE starts

2. In MSN Messenger itself set it so that it doesn't automatically start
when you log on to Windows.

2. In Windows XP make a registry edit:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Outlook Express

Add a new DWord value, naming it "Hide Messenger" - no quotation marks - and
give it a value of 2.
