msinfo32/system information

I feel like my msinfo32 file might be corrupted or something. I did have two
modems installed in my computer, I recently removed one of them as I really
didn't use it that much. I went into device manager and un-installed it. I
then went to the system information area, and it no longer showed up in
there. What did show up was two separate entries for the remaining modem that
was still installed. So I thought I'd try something to clear out all of the
entries in system information / component / modem area. I physically removed
both modems from my computer, I then re-booted my computer. Much to my
dismay..in the modem area of system information, it still showed a modem
entry without any modems installed in my
computer. Is there any way to correct this problem, I've been trying to find
an answer elsewhere..but so far I haven't had any luck. Thanks so much for
your time.

See "Device Manager Does Not Display Devices That Are Not Connected to
the Windows XP-Based Computer"
(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315539). Make sure that hidden
devices are shown and remove any modems that are displayed now.

Dear Thorsten Matzner,
Thanks for the reply, when I clicked on the link that you enclosed in your
reply to me and read the knowledge base article. In step #3 it said:
3. Type the following command a command prompt, and then press ENTER (where
%SystemRoot% is the folder in which Windows XP is installed):
cd\%SystemRoot%\system32 . I thought that was simple enough, but when I
tried to enter that command it told me that the syntax that I entered wasn't
recognized. On my computer, windows xp is installed in the C: local disk
folder. As I only have one hard drive and just one primary partition, I
removed %SystemRoot% , and entered
C:. I guess I'm not as smart as I once thought I was. Thanks for trying to
help me, I feel like there's still some way to update all of the information
in the system information area so that i reads correctly.

Lose the first backslash. What you are typing resolves to

cd\c:\windows\system32

Dear David Candy,
Concerning the third step of the kb article, I typed what you said in your
reply:
cd\c:\windows\system32 , and still got the same response as I did
previously. It said that: The filename, directory name, or volume label
syntax is incorrect . Thanks for trying to help me !

Try reading my post. I was saying what YOU were typing.

%windir% = c:\windows

You are typing
cd\%windir%\system32 = cd\c:\windows\system32.

WRONG

I said LOSE THE FIRST BACKSLASH

Dear David,
I ended up typing this : cd c:\windows\system32 , @ the command prompt. When
I did, I no longer received an invalid message as before. The pompt changed
to system32, at which time I typed : start devmgmt.msc . Maybe I should have
just everything alone..Oh well..such is life..
Thanks

Just type msinfo32.exe in Start/Search, and be SURE you first click
Advanced Options then check mark the first three options prior to
clicking OK. The files are hidden by default.
