I am running a Pentium III 800 with Win 2000. I tried to
install Office 2000 using the autorun but I get an error
message that says "msiexec.exe has caused an error..." My
system then freezes and I have to turn it off manually.
If you have any suggestions please drop me an email and
let me know.
Thanks
Kyle

Kyle,

What Service Pack are you running on Windows 2000? I ask because Service Packs after starting with 3 update Windows
Installer to version 2.

The error you listed normally indicates an entry is written into the Dr Watson log (drwtsn32.log) and some times a User
dump (user.dmp) is created for the failure. If you have these there may be some useful information in them, if you are
comfortable debugging a dump file.

You could try unregistering and reregistering Windows Installer with the below commands to see what happens.

msiexec.exe /unregister

msiexec.exe /regserver
