I tried to access the 'Internet Options' setting on MSIE 6.
I couldn't get the settings to come up. I have also noticed that
'about' does not come up under 'Help'. I have installed SP2 recently
so I can only blame that ( I do have a virus checker etc. so I don't
suspect foul play). Any antidote other than uninstall SP2?

Hi,

While I'm not sure about the effects that SP2 has on the
internet options settings box, it sounds like you may have
been compromised by adware. As a test, try to see if you can
access the internet options through the control panel (open
the control panel, and click on the 'Internet Options'
button).

If you find you are able to access the Internet Options
through the control panel, you may want to consider checking
your system for spyware/adware. Several programs are
available to deal with this type of malicious software
installation.

First, we'll start with AdAware. This is an excellent
program which detects and deletes spyware, and other malware
programs. AdAware is available from:

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

After downloading and installing AdAware, *be sure to update
it*. This will ensure you are protected against the latest
threats. Then, run it.

Next, we'll get CWShredder. This neat program catches
variants which may have been missed by AdAware. CWShredder
is available from:

http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip

Once again, be sure to update it to ensure the latest threat
protection.

The above should remove the programs causing this, and
restore your computer back to optimal configuration.

Altrus
