I just reinstalled Windows 2000. I am now in the process
of installing some new software. However when updating
the Microsoft Windows Installer I get ean erro message
that setup cannot update the MSI? The message says to
gotr to Microsoft.com but I have yet to find a solution
any ideas?

What Service Pack to you have installed? I ask because SP3 and up installs Windows Installer 2 and currently that is the
latest version.
If you don't have SP3 or higher installed try running the two commands below and then see what happens.
msiexec.exe /unregister
msiexec.exe /regserver
If it still does not work we can manually remove Windows Installer 1.1 by doing the following.
Run msiexec.exe /unregister to unregister it.
Rename the files Msi.dll, Msiexec.exe and Msihnd.dll from a Command Prompt. You may need to boot to Safe Mode to
rename these files.
Try installing the 2.0 version of Windows Installer. If you had to boot to Safe Mode to rename the files above then boot
back to Normal Mode before trying to intall Windows Installer.
