I defined a GPO under the User Settings, Software
Installation to install a .MSI package from pcAnywhere.
The .msi is on shared directory but it is not being
installed on the client.
Of course, I am doing something wrong, but I don't know
how to establish what it is....Is there a step by step
instructions on how to install software thru a GPO
someplace on the internet?
I am new at this so I can't even establish the difference
between an ASSIGNED or PUBLISHED software
installation.....
If after the client boots, I double-click the .msi file
on the shared resource, it does start the installation
OK, but it does not automatically when the client logs on.
Thanks for your help.

I never could get pcAnywhere to install correctly with GPO. It would
install, but never worked right, I hope your installations work better.
Thank goodness for WinXP so we don't need pcA.

First, make sure the users have rights to read the share where the MSI
lives.

Next, apply the User-based GPO on the OU where the user accounts live. If
you publish it, the user will need to look in Add/Remove Programs>add
programs and install it from there. With pcA, you'll probably want to
install it based on the machine rather than user. This is because the
install is complicated because of the choices you must make and IMHO, pcA
runs best as a service on the local machine.
