Can I use an Athlon II CPU (240 or 250) on an MSI K9A2GM
motherboard? If so, are there any restrictions or partial
crippling of the CPU's features? TIA.

Thanks. I'd already checked the CPU compatibility chart before
posting my question and didn't see the Athlon II listed. I
thought I'd ask here anyway. This is the page I viewed:

Weird. Your chart seems to cover BIOS releases up to 1.2, while
the table on the other MSI site covers up to 1.7. It looks like
they didn't keep the USA site up to date.

I usually just search against the MSI site with an external
search engine, and see what pops up.

The specification for the motherboard mentions power limitations,
and the processor table has nothing over 95W listed. So if later
next year, someone takes a liking to the following processor and
installs it in the motherboard, the motherboard will likely fry
during the first game played. Or a run of Prime95 stress testing.
As long as you stick with your X2 250 choice, you should be fine,
as it is only 65W.
