My Windows Installer v2.0 is damaged or corrupt.
I'm using Win2k.
I have read and followed, to the letter 7 articles in the
ms kb and from other sources to resolve the problem.
I have checked the dcom configuration, write privs in the
registry and on the boot drive, deleted existing msi files
(msiexec.exe, msi.dll, msihnd.dll) and finally ended up
removing every registry entry related to the MSI. This
includes the current control set services entries - they
weren't doing any good anyway.
I can ensure that no trace of the installer exists on the
machine (including in the dllcache.)
However, when I attempt a clean re-install, it fails
because the MSI Service cannot be accessed. HELLO!
That's what I'm trying to install here.
The fact that an application requires an existing, valid
installation of itself in order to be installed is crazy.
It's a chicken and egg scenario.
Suggestions?
