MSHTML.dll

I keep getting an error message that I have traced down to MS article ID#
811830. In this article it says I can download a fix for IE6-SP1 problems
with the MSHTML.DLL file. I cannot find the site to download this fix. Can
anyone tell me where to go to find this. I am using W98 w IE6-spl on an
older computer. I just recently started having this problem.

Hi Chief :)

Try here..

5 Star Support - DLL download library
http://www.5starsupport.com/info/dll.htm
Scroll to the <M> section for the DLL you need and find it in the list, then
click on it to start the download. However, after downloading, check the
version to be sure it is the one you need before installing.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the link. I did download it and unzipped but I have no way to
know if it did indeed go to the proper place. I tried to register it as
instructed to on the download page but It would not accept my command.
Maybe I do not understand the instructions or maybe I do not need to register
it. I will find out if It fixed it i guess over the next several hous or
days. If it doesnt bive me the error report I guess it is fixed. Thanks
again. Will let you know in a few days if it is truly ok.

Please respond if back to this thread, if necessary. I'll keep a check on
it for the next few days just in case. :)

Interesting to note that I downloaded the file that Jan suggested, and
checked it out. It is a later version than the one listed in the MS KB
article, but under Properties I see it says "Swedish" under Language. I
hope this doesn't cause you any problems.

BTW, that file should be in C:\Windows\System for a Win98 system.
To register that file, go to Start...Run and type in:
regsvr32 mshtml.dll
Click Okay or hit the Enter key

In the article you site, there is no download link for that file - you'll
have to contact MS Support via the link provided and they will email you the
proper file. If you tell them you are trying to fix a problem stated in
that specific KB article number, there should be no support charges at all.

Another way to safely update that file is to get the patch in this article
under the Resolution section:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813489/EN-US/ then again from here, in this
order:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;816506
Or, just run Windows Update and get all the available security patches, and
you'll get the latest version of that file.

Hey, I did get the file registered per your instructions and it seemed to
be all right but tonite when I was in outlook express i got a smiliar message
MSIMN caused an invalid page fault in module MSHTMLO.DLL@ 015f:63635b01 and
a list of registers underneath that is a little different than the one I had
before. It said Internet explorer caused the invalid page fault. What is
happening. It seems to be in the same module but differnet .

In reading your response, I have also downloaded and checked and rechecked
the Properties in every way I can think of, and have not been able to find a
reference to any language at all in the Properties details of the file. I
am obviously missing some further step in researching the information on the
files. I would truly appreciate it if you would please tell me how/where to
look for this kind of language reference information in the Properties so
that I will be sure to double check such information in the future. :)

Hey, Jan! I right-clicked on that mshtml.dll file downloaded from the site
you mentioned, clicked Properties, then went to the Version tab. In the
Item name box on the left, click on Language to highlight it and look at the
Value in the right box. Says "Swedish". Also looking at the Description
and Copyright lines at the top - doesn't look like English, either. ;-)

Oh, and from reading a certain email list, may I publicly say
congratulations on your recent achievement!!!
Keep up the good work!

Ah Ha! Hmm...wonder if that really does affect how the file works in the
English version of the program. I'll have to do more reseach on that.
Thank you for the additional information.

Jan,

Do you have filever.exe (e.g. from XP Support Tools)?

Try using filever /v against a module you want additional
information about.

I am still getting the second error message about an invalid page fault in
module mshtml.dll @ 015f:63635b01 with various registers below.
Downloading the mshtml.dll seemed to take care of the first error message
from IExplore. But then this one popped up. I have also noticed when I run
SFC it showes IE4.DLL missing and will not replace from cab files. Can
someone help?
IE6-SP1 on windows 98.

Hi Chief :)

Try taking a look at the information here and see if one of them will help.

MSHMTL.DLL Errors
http://www.generation.net/~hleboeuf/ermshtml.htm

If still no joy, then I recommend that you do a repair/reinstall of your OS
and make sure all files are properly installed. The IE4.dll error could be a
result of file corruption.

Hope this helps :)

That one is listed in the DLL Help Database.

http://support.microsoft.com/dllhelp/default.aspx?fid=63939

How did you get your IE6sp1? Do you still have its .cab files?
It looks as if the one you want would be in setupw95.cab

BTW notice that the KB article you cited is quite old.
It looks as if that hotfix would have been long ago superseded
by a cumulative security patch. E.g. with 889669 you could
have

<title>An update rollup is available for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1</title>
<a> Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition,
Microsoft Windows NT, Windows 98 </a>

<quote>
MSHTML.DLL 25-Oct-2004 17:40 6.0.2800.1480 2,697,216
</quote>

(C.f. the version the hotfix was offering... 6.0.2800.1148)

Also all this careful maintenance checking may be for nought
if the problem turns out to be some interfering third-party program. <eg>

Have you checked for that possibility?
