I have a password protected workbook and I need to run a
script to open it. I've tried several free downloads and
they don't even return the first 3 letters. Any ideas or
am I hosed?

Most free downloads don't support breaking the file password - they usually
work on workbook and sheet protection which are only accessible after the
workbook is open. You might have to purchase a utility to get to the file
password. I am certainly no expert on this, so perhaps someone else has a
better answer.

The file isn't password protected, the worksheets are. I
can open the file w/o a password but I can't open the
worksheets to see my underlying VBA script.

The software I've tried says it will return the first 2
or 3 characters of the password for the sheet, but none
of the utilities have worked.

Any other ideas???

sheet level protection has nothing to do with seeing the code associated
with the sheet. It sounds like the VBAproject (code) is password protected.
So utilities that will crack sheet level or workbook level protection are
useless here.

Again, sounds like you might need a pay application.
