msdos program won't remaximize after hitting window key

Works fine in my old computer with windows 2000. New
computer has service pact 4 and all security updates. If I
launch a dos program from shortcut programs run fine but
if I hit the windows key and minimize the program when I
try to maximize from the window at bottom of desktop just
get black screen with dpms stand by from monitor. If I hit
the windows key It goes back to the desktop. any
sugestions on what to do?
