When I access the MSDN Newsgroup, the display looks correct in all respects
until I click to open a specific news item. The item text should appear in
the right panel. Instead it goes blank.
The onlly way I can see the item is to double click on it and the thread
opens in a new window. I believe I have only default IE settings.

Also note: Whin I Sign In, the sign in message appears in the right panel so
it is not completely dead.

Any help???

Hi ClydeL :-)

Open Link in a new window

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

3. Click OK, and then click OK again when you receive the following message:

DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded.

4. If that doesn't fix it, see this article:

http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers.htm#new_window

5. If you are using WinXP try this:
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/reg/IE_Default_Browser.reg

However.....Outlook Express is a better newsreader. If you wish to set it up
as your newsreader, follow the instructions below:

How to set up an MS newsgroup

In OE go to Tools>Accounts>Add (or New)>News.
Set up an account for this news server:

msnews.microsoft.com

Scroll down the list to the groups you want to subscribe to and then click
Subscribe. When done, click OK

The server is free and does not require you to logon. This news server
carries over 2200 newsgroups related to Microsoft products and keeps
messages at least 30 days.

If these steps do not resolve your problem, or you need help with the above,
please post back to this thread with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Jan :)

Thanks but nothing helped.
Please note, if I double click on an item in the MSDN Newsgroups page, a new
window opens witht he fill thread. This works as I assume is expected.

When you click on an item in the MSDN window, the text of the item should
display in the right hand frame. Instead, it blanks out what is ever there.
I don't think of this a a new window. I can see how it should work because
my system at home works as I expected.

Appreciate any help.

I am really sorry, but, I regret that I don't have any other suggestions for
you on this issue. Perhaps someone else here will be able to provide some
further information that will help resolve your problem. Good luck.:-)

I don't think of this a a new window.

Perhaps not a new window but I think it is in a frame
so you might have the same problem that users have
who report the symptom of blank new windows.

In any case I suggest you try some stronger repairs
for that symptom.

You didn't disclose your OS so try figuring out for yourself
which of the following articles are appropriate in your case:
KB194177, KB831429 (e.g. the regsvr32 commands listed there)
or KB870700

Good luck
