Does anyone know what MSDM.exe is?

The path for the application is:
c:\Program Files\Common Files\MSDM\msdm.exe

The reason I am asking is that it has a trojan attached
to it and norton cannot quaranteen nor repair this file
so the only option left is to delete it, but looking at
the file makes me think it has something to do with ms-
dos and deleting it would not be a good idea.

Can anyone help?

Did you do a typo? This explains mdm.

mdm - mdm.exe - Process Information
Process File: mdm or mdm.exe
Process Name: Machine Debug Manager
Description: The Machine Debug Manager is used for
Debugging Applications and is Installed by the Microsoft
Script Editor which is included in Microsoft Office
Common Errors: N/A
System Process: Yes

The few references I found through google seem to think its a spam relay
agent. It listens on a port waiting for it to be sent a list of email
addresses which it then sends spam mail to. From the recipients point of
view, it looks like you sent it.

Neither that file nor the msdm directory is on this windows xp professional
system.

Check to see if there is an msdm process running in taskmanager.

If so, run msconfig and look under the startup tab to see if you can find
how it gets started.

If you delete it, you should clean up after it aswell.
