In Win9x, you could maximize the MSCONFIG window to see the full path names
in the Startup group. In XP, the maximize is grayed out and I can't maximize
the Window. Is there a registry setting that can allow this Window to be
maximized? It' very inconvenient not being able to maximize that window.
Thanks.

Hover the mouse on the rightside column separator and drag it to the
right to enlarge that column. When you position the mouse over the
column separator in the headers, the cursor changes to a vertical bar
with left and right arrows. You can make it as wide as you want but
you'll have to use the scrollbar to pan left and right.

You bet it's inconvenient. You can use your mouse to stretch the columns,
but that's as far as it goes. A little "oops" from those wild and crazy
programmers in Redmond?

Could I replace msconfig.exe in XP with the version that came with Me?

No. XP is not an extension of Win98/ME. It is descended from WinNT/2000.
Different OS code base. Msconfig is often used in Safe Mode so I suspect
that the window is restricted so that the entire window will always show in
Safe Mode.

I never thought of it that way...makes more sense than my characterization
of it as an "oops".

Try double clicking the column seperator. This will size the column to fit
the widest item in it. This will also narrow the column to the widest item
in it.

This also works in most Windows programs.

Hope this helps. Let us know.

Autoruns from Sysinternals is another good, free MSConfig replacement.
