In msconfig there are several options in the "advanced" area. For
example, one of them is \noguiboot.

Where can I get info about what these switches do? I went to microsoft
and searched for msconfig, but the articles do not address the items in
the "advanced" section.

No= not, GUI=Graphical User Interface, boot(strap)=start (computer) =>
noguiboot=start computer without graphical user interface (aka Command
Prompt). It's self-explanatory, you see :)

The one that's most useful is often the /SAFEBOOT switch. This directs the
machine to restart in Safe Mode, which can sometimes be difficult to get to.
For example, some systems with wireless keyboards don't load the drivers
early enough for the F8 key to trigger safe mode, and if you don't have a
wired keyboard handy, without that option you can't get to safe mode at all.
