I am using Win XP Pro w SP2 and I can't get msconfig to run.

I have searched the web and the only hits I come up with indicate that
it is spyware or virus related.

I have removed viruses using ez trust ezantivirus and removed spyware
using 2 spyware scanners but it still will not run, even in Safe mode.

I have tried replacing it and copying it and renaming it as well.

If anyone has resolved this specific problem, please help.

Try running the Registry Editor (Start - Run - REGEDIT)

Does the same thing happen?

That would be a strong indication that your computer is infested with
some sort of virus/trojan/spyware. Disabling MSCONFIG and REGEDIT is
a fairly common stunt that some malware items use.

Try some additional resources, such as the following free online
scanners:
Bit Defender http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html
Trend Micro http://housecall.trendmicro.com
Kaspersky Online Scanner http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
Panda ActiveScan http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan
WindowSecurity.com TrojanScan http://windowssecurity.com/trojanscan
Webroot http://www.webroot.com/

My suggestion is that you boot your computer into "Safe Mode with
Networking" and then do at least 2 of the above scans.

Good luck

The system is either suffering from side-effects from the malware or the
malware is still resident. Suggest you follow Mr. Martell's advice, Cindy.
