msconfig in the run box, startup tab, uncheck to remove a startup item, but
if you do not know how to do it, chances are you shouldn't. uncheck the
wrong thing and you can cause big trouble. If you must, create a restore
point before you do

I think that 'How can I remove unused items (unchecked) from the system configuration utility' means to remove the items in msconfig>startup that have already been disabled:
we can modify the registry keys to remove the unwanted service:
1. Click Start, click Run, type “regedit†(without the quotation marks) in the open box and click OK.
2. In the left pane, expand the tree to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services
3. Highlight the Run key, right-click it and click Export. Save the file to the desktop. (This is for backup purpose.)
4. Expand the Services tree and search for a sub-key name of service you want to get rid of and delete it.
5. Restart the system to test this issue.
