Hi people, I was wondering why there is no msconfig in
windows xp and server 2003?

This tool was valuable for editing applications that were
running on boot up.

Is there a similiar tool that can help me, other than
editing reg keys in CurrentVersion/Run

Thanks for your time,

Terrence

Terrence;
Did you look?
It is in the same place:
Start/Run
Type "msconfig" ENTER

Win XP Pro has msconfig.....don't know about XP home or 2003 server.

A neat trick I found through these NGS is that you can move
msconfig.exe from an older version of windows to your new setup.
Execute the program and you should receive about 4 error
messages........just say okay and you will arrive at the page where
you can then adjust what programs run (or not) when the OS starts up.

This has worked for all Win OSs I have tried it on that didn't have
msconfig built in........haven't tried it on Server 2003.

XP has msconfig. If it does not show up for you the problem may be virus related. Some virus's stop the system tools from launching.
As for Windows 2000, there is no msconfig. But you can copy it from XP to 2000. This is a supported scenerio from Micrososft.

If you don't receive an error message when you try to run MSCONFIG, or it appears that it tries to run, the quickly closes, see www.dougknox.com, Win XP Utilities, Create Emergency Copies of Critical XP System Utilities.
