When using msconfig I can make changes but on closing even in safemode, I
get an error message saying an error occured and the changes made cannot be
implemented, however they do seem to be.
I also cannot get regsvr32 to remove DLLs.
WinXP home
ATI Graphics
Thanks

Have an HP printer? I've seen the issue with msconfig numerous times
lately on machines with HP printer software installed. If this is your
case, my suggestion is to live with it since the changes do get made and
you do want to be able to use your printer.

As for the second question regarding .dll's, regsvr32 does not remove
them. You can use regsvr32 to register/unregister .dll's that support
being registered. You would need to explain what you are trying to do
and why in order to get focused help with that.

Hi Malke,
Many thanks for your prompt reply.
Yes I have an HP6300 Printer )-:
When starting I get a blue "Please wait" screen and the event viewer records
that the pre start bugcheck found a problem with nvmctran.dll, I should add
that I have recovered from a major problem caused by Nvidia and have now
installed an ATI card.
It seems that Nvidia did not remove completely and I am left with about 30
DLLs still registered.
When trying to unregister them I am told to contact my administrator, I have
3 users all with admin rights so it seems the permissions are up the creek
also.
The 3rd user I created to try to overcome this problem, to no avail, but
when trying to delete this the button is greyed out after selecting that
user.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

As long as you are absolutely sure that the .dll's in question are
Nvidia ones, delete them in Safe Mode. Before you do this, you might
also want to use the Autoruns program which will show you absolutely
everything starting with Windows. You may find an Nvidia program or
process still starting and simply disabling that may solve your issue.

Hi Malke,
I did as you suggested and now have a nice clean event viewer report.
Many thanks for your invaluable assistance
