MSAS - Symantec Issue

Just wondering if the issue with MS. Anti-spyware and
Norton I.S. 2005 has been fixed or what is happening
about it.

The problem incase I'm not being clear is, some how the
two programs cause MSAS to not function fully/at all. The
auto update, security cheakpoints not being visible and
not working, even though the program say's it is...

I've had this problem for a good few months now, and have
only 1/3 of the protection I should from this program. I
got rid of all Norton/Symantec software and went with
Trend Micro I.S 2005.

Any news or info on what to reinstall in WindowsXP to
revert this?

Thanks guys, Frank

We now have a fix for this issue:
Download this code and install it:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...61-7a9c-43e7-9117-f673077ffb3c&DisplayLang=en

(Here's a KB article explaining why (sort of!)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290887

Apparently the issue is mixed versions of the multiple files constituting
the VB6 runtime.

You can decide who to blame for the situation, but applying an SP for the
runtime--probably doesn't matter which SP--we've had positive reports from
SP5 and SP6 (above is SP6)--takes care of the issue.

Worked for me, too. Until uninstalling and then
reinstalling Norton System Works (I don't recommend that)
I had no problems with MSAS and Norton. After Norton re-
install all my agents were deactivated; now they are
hunky-dory. Thank you.

Great. I expect the root issue behind this one to disappear at some point
in the beta, but it is nice to have a fix for now.

hopefully Microsoft would fix this because most computer
user have Norton Internet Security 2005 installed on
there system. SO PLEASE MICROSOFT FIX THIS PROBLEM

Hi

I do believe that most users don´t use this bloating NIS.
Something has gone complete wrong with all Norton products.
After Symantecs "rule Windows" SP2 debacle I think they need
to change approach.................

And with MSAS we can see a little disaster with VB6.

well most of the pc on the retail store like bestbuy,
circuitcity, fry's comes with symantec product.

well, we all have different opinions, of course were
going to stick with what we have. If i don't have a
symantec product and i have mcafee installed on my system
of course I'm always going to have a positive opinion on
Mcafee and negative opinion on symantec product. just
like firefox and internet explorer people have different
opinion about this browser which is safer, better.

Every popular security product have to change there
approach since SP2 came out not just symantec product.

and trust me Microsoft had already fix the MSAS and NIS
2005 issue. we will see on beta 2 or the final version.

My take is that one should use the program(s) that they feel best fits their
needs, and that they are most comfortable with.

That said, I have neither Symantec nor McAfee on my systems.

I'm in charge of seven computers and don't allow anything from Symantec or
McAfee on any of them.
