MSAS-Real-time protection

Today MSAS did not load so I restarted with the same
situation. So, I ran it manually. Then started checking
the application and found that "Security Agent Status",
all of them are inactive. I attempted to activate them
but am unable to because that selection is dimmed. Anyone
have any solution? Thanks!

I found a solution! I found it here from a post by Andy
Manchesta! Thanks, Andy! I went to Control Panel,
Add/Remove Programs, MSAS, clicked on MSAS, clicked
change and it activated one of the agents and I was then
able to activate the other two.

Try do a repair an see if this fixes the problem

Goto Start Menu > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs

Click Microsoft Antispy and you will see "Click Here For
Support Information" written, Clcik this line then
choose "Repair"

If you think this is malware related, download Ewido
Security Suite (Free Trial) and run a complete scan.

http://www.ewido.net/en/

Install ewido.
During the installation, under "Additional Options"
uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via
context menu".
Launch ewido
On the left side of the main screen click update
Click on Start and let it update.
Then Run a Complete System Scan

It may also be worth you running Antivirus Scans to make
sure you dont have any problems on your system :

Man, I tried all the solutions in all the threads I could
find. Still no luck. It just won't let me turn on the
real-time protection.

Well, I got my Real-Time Protection working for the time
being. It must have been a virus affecting it. I
finally was able to clear up a virus ("poka") by booting
up in safe mode and manually deleting it myself.
Hopefully MSAS will work the way it's supposed to now.
By the way, MSAS did not detect this virus. McAfee Virus
Scan did detect it, but couldn't permanently clean or
delete it. I think I got it fix myself, though.

That's pretty interesting--I'd love to read more about this specific virus,
but I'm having trouble finding anything of use at Mcafee's site. Anybody
know Symantec's name for this critter?
