For some reason my icon is not in the system tray by the
clock. I have it set to always show. So, if it is missing,
is it still working?

I even went into taskbar/options and set it to always show,
but still no there. Any ideas?

I have the newest updates.

Hello Madonna,

try this:

Goto: Start/Control Panel/Add-Remove programs/MSAS
then click on support info!!!
Then click on repair!

If that wont work then it is really a XP problem,

I give a workaround for all th missing things in the systray:
Go to:
C:\Windows\system32\
and look for systray.exe, right click on it and make a shortcut
from it, then move the shortcut to the common startup folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\StartMenu\Programs\Startup\

Restart the computer.

This is a well known bug in XP.

The only sure-fire workaround is to log off and log back
on. Doing so will cause other icons that aren't normally
showing in the systray to display as well.

I think the cause is a bug in the customization feature
of the systray.

Even though the icon doesn't show in the systray, the
program is still active.

There are reports on other ms news sites that since the last SP2 update,
Automatic Logon is the culprit for bizarre taskbar operation.

I was having the same problem with SP1 installed, so I
don't think it has anything to do with SP2, just XP in
general.

Interesting discussion about the missing icons. Seems to me that MSAS is very
sensitive for this issue. I have had this on more than one computer/laptop.
Of course this is a MS XP bug. It all started when I decided to enable the
"uPNP" icons in "my network locations". More and more icons dissapeared from
the system tray. The solutions I read in this forum don't work or just for a
moment. You can also switch off the SSDP Discovery-service, like MS suggest
(yes it is documented in the knowledgement database). It's all the same. So,
nothing really to do with MSAS, it's a general bug. Hope this helps you
folks.
