I have a secured database setup with MSAccess2000. Normally to open the
database the system.mds must be set using WRKGADM.EXE file.

I am now trying to open the file with XP. It tells me I don't have
permission. How can I set up the correct permissions for XP?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your reply Joseph. Yes I did know I needed the original file. I
have a client which was using the database and she had her Office upgraded
from 2000 to XP. She was not able to gain access to the database.

I have a pc with all three versions of office (ie 97, 2000 and XP). The
original db was in 97, which I then converted to 2000. I have not had
problems opening either of the versions. I have just tried to open the 2000
version with XP but it tells me I do not have the necessary permissions.

Is the WRKGADM.EXE file I need to use the same one which is used for
Access2000? I have tried this file but it doesn't change the fact that I
can't get into the db.

In 2002 (XP), you use Tools, Security, workgroup administrator to change the
default mdw. wrkgadm.exe is used in 97 and 2000.

However, I'd suggest you don't use the workgroup administrator at all.
Leave the computer joined by default to the standard system.mdw workgroup.
Provide your users (and yourself for that matter) a desktop shortcut that
points to the secure mdw to use for that session. They'd use the shortcut
to launch the secure database. The target would look like
"path to correct version of msaccess.exe" "path to mdb" /wrkgrp "path to
secure.mdw"
