Okay, I see a lot of postings about this here. I know that there is a
solution in KB923762 if you are running IE6.0SP1 on XP or 2000 SP4.
Unfortunately, I am a good little sysadmin and have most of my XP boxes on
SP2. We experiencing the exact same error that is described in 923762, but
this article only talks about fixes for SP1 folks. There seems to be nothing
out there to help us diligent types who are using SP2.

My big problem is that I am running Microsoft CRM as my primary
billing/customer management system and it is affected.

I'm going to bug customer support to see if anything is being done for the
problem on XPSP2 systems, but I wonder if any of others who've mentioned here
that they are getting it on SP2 have had any help or acknowledgement that the
problem affects SP2?

Have you posted this in the web interface discussion/community group - they
have an update group I believe as here in public.windpwsupdate newsgroups.
It is mentioned quire a lot. Good luck.

See http://www.21crm.ca/newsl/TechFlashAug162006.htm (and I do NOT agree
with their reasoning).

Well, you need to rethink that.

This is exactly what is happening to thousands of people this week. It
does not apply just to Sage CRM but all sorts of other environments as
well. MS issued an update this week that essentially disabled users
computers for a week, according to the article referenced. I was able
to get around it by reinstalling IE6 with fresh downloads from MS.

Don't they TEST this stuff?

Of course they test it - every Black Tuesday - on us :-)
