IE help about reports sp1 installed.

hfnetchk reports sp1 installed.

Qindows update recognizes IE SP1is installed.

But still when I try to apply 822925 I get
"..requires Internet Explorer Service Pack 1 be install..."

I have installed it. I have re-booted.
I have ... no answer

help please

Are you trying to install Q822925 via Windows Update or a download page?

IE Help>About>Update Versions> Might Q822925 already be listed here?

I have tried both ways.
If I do it with a downloaded file, I immediately get the
message IE6 SP1 needs to be installed (it is).
If I do it via windows update, it reports it needs it, so
I say install it, it does, I check history, it says
successful, I run hfnetchk it says I NEED ms03-32,,, I go
back to windows update, it SAYS I need it again?????

I have a similar problem and received the following from Microsoft support:

At this time, I suggest that we try the following suggestion and then check
the issue:

Step 1
==========
Please go to Control Panel> Add or Remove Programs to remove SP1. Restart
the computer.

Step 2
==========
Please download Windows XP SP1a onto local hard disk, and then try to
install it.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/servicepacks/sp1/network.asp

Step 2
==========
After you install SP1, please try to install the hotfix again.

If the issue persists, I believe the best choice is to perform a clean
installation to completely solve the problems and at the same time,
eliminate any other related potential issues. (We can repair Windows but it
will not correct these problems as it only reloads the system files.) If you
would like to choose clean install, I will provide the detailed steps and
the way to back up all critical data in my next emails.

It sounds like Michael Rosen's reply contains your best approach, Stydor.
Your install of IE6-SP1 may be a "dirty" one*. (You didn't by any chance
install IE6-SP1 on or after 21 Aug-03, did you?)

In most cases, receiving the "IE6-SP1 must be installed" error is
Microsoft's way of saying, "What you're trying to manually install is
already installed."

I suggest you post this problem to microsoft.public.windowsupdate newsgroup.

[*I just noticed you post using a Netscape address. You're not trying to do
any/all of this using Netscape as your browser, are you? You didn't
download/install IE6-SP1 using Netscape, did you?][/QUOTE]

In my case, the last two times I tried to install SP1 via Windows Update
(using IE 6) it completely crashed my system. I could not boot into Windows
XP Home and had to go back to a previous system restore point. I'm hoping
this suggestion to download and install from my hard drive will not result
in a repeat occurrence.

That's odd, when this particular update is to fix a problem in Windows XP.
So, it could not already be installed.

Mike

You talking to me? Unless you include the previous message in your reply,
no one knows what you're talking about.

Stydor's original post (and one of yours) was in this thread:
http://snurl.com/25oo. He apparently changed the Subject somewhere along
the line.

Q327010 has nothing to do with either of these threads. I replied to an OT
reply of yours in another thread, suggesting the install of Q822925 may help
with *that* problem.
