Hey guys. I have been experiencing a slow shutdown where
the computer would just stall at "Saving your settings". I
have checked my ativirus software and downloaded the
latest patches for them and still the computer takes a
long time to log off. So, after reading a couple of other
similar articles, I have retraced the problem back to the
MS03-026 patch that I installed in response to the exploit
by the Blaster Worm. How can I fix this?

MS03-026 has been superceded by MS03-039. Installing the latter may or
may not cure the problem. If it does not, take a look at this:

If I install that service, would there be a change of any
problems after installing it like my profiles getting
messed up?

I suppose that there's alway some chance that an install will mess
something up, but the chances are very low in this situation. The
UPHClean service actually helps prevent your profile from getting trashed
by allowing the registry entries to be written when they're supposed to
be. It's a single program that can be disabled or uninstalled if it seems
to be causing a problem. I've been using it with no problem for almost
six months. The risk would seem to be as small as you're ever going to
get.

Hey, thanks! It worked fine w/o any problems, yet. Now I
can finally use userprofiles. Before, I would just have my
administrator profile login automatically at start up, but
now I won't have to worry about that.
