First of all it takes what seems like forever to open Word.
Secondly, I am copying a page from the internet and pasting it into a new
Word document, then save...
then I go again to the 'net and copy something else and I want to paste that
into my document as well,
but it will not let me do the second paste.

I always have to close Word and the document after the first paste,
then open the document again and type the info instead of pasting it.

When I open the document for the second paste then a screen comes up on the
left hand side and tells me this is the original document.

Sorry if this seems wordy -

Arghhh!!!

Can anyone help me?

There is no error message... just the hourglass which lasts until I do
Ctrl/Alt/Del to end the program.

A few thoughts.

This may sound silly but after you paste a complicated web
page's contents into Word, click on a single blank spot in your
Word document and CTL-C copy it. This clears the memory
clipboard contents to one byte of data. Then paste the second\
web page into your document. It may or may not paste faster.
It won't hurt to try this.

Another thing to try is to use Edit > Paste Special instead the
regular Edit > Paste. This has worked well for me in the past.

You may be experiencing memory management problems:
How much RAM do you have?

Another thing that really slows down MS Word launches is the
time is must spend loading all the fonts you have stored in your
C:\Windows\Fonts folder. The more fonts you have, the slower
Word will load. And Word is constantly shuffling things in and
out of memory to make room for the things you're doing at the
time. It has to move out inactive fonts to the spool folder on the
hard drive. This slows down things, too.

One of the techniques I used to speed my Word load was to
create a new folder with the path C:\Windows\Inactive_Fonts.
I reviewed all fonts in my Fonts folder and dragged 60-75% of
them to the Inactive_Fonts folder. They were fonts I seldom,
if ever, used. Then rebooted and re-launched Word. Everything
ran much quicker. This approach also speeds up Photoshop if
you use it, too.

Good luck!

I am copying a page from the internet and pasting it into a new
Word document, then save... and I have no trouble with that part of the
operation.

The real problem comes when I go to another website and copy part of a page,
go back to the original document with the first pasted info, and try to past
again... it just won't do it. I did try the ctrl-C on an empty space on the
document... that brings up a box on the right with the info I got from the
website the second time. I guess I could copy and paste from there but...

Paste special doesn't seem to work either...

This operation was working just fine a week or so ago so I did a system
restore and that did not seem to rectify the problem. I am stumped...

As to the fonts... I rarely d/l a new font... and, as I said, all this
worked fine a week or so ago.

Thanks for your help... any other ideas?

Thank you
Mary
