Tom

I had a virus that required a reformat of my HD. Upon
trying to bring up MS Word, after rebuilding my software,
I get the screen that asks for the Product ID, when I
insert the product ID, it keeps asking for it again. I got
the product ID from clicking on Help, the About Microsoft
as directed by another help screen. Other screens ask for
Product ID from back of a "jewel"case, I do not have such
an item. What can I do to fill in the product ID boxes
when it does not accept my current product ID...Tom

If you don't have the original jewel case that contains your CD key, how did
you reinstall Word to begin with?

I have a CD Microsoft WorksSuite 2001, it contains
Microsoft Word 2000 SR-1. I guess Microsoft is so worried
about someone stealing their product, that the rest of the
consumers must have to bear the inconvenience for a few. I
do not keep any cases CDs come in, music, applications, or
otherwise, I keep my CD in a case designed to hold just
the disks. So the question is if you lose your case is
that the end or does MS have some remedy.

I have a CD, that I assume came with the computer, it
seems as tho the program is on the computer, but as
requested by MS help, I go to the "Help" title, and click
on "about Microsoft" to get the product ID, which is
there, but it is not accepted in the window requesting
that product ID. I do not keep CD cases, as I store my
CDs of all types in a case designed to hold just the
disks. I guess MS in their effort to stop a few from
stealing their products, penalize the rest of the
customers that have computer failures, and cannot locate
some code numbers they want.. very discouraging.

News to me - Works has its own scaled down word processor. Word is part of
MS Office and always has been.

If you have proof of purchase from a retail version of any MS product you
can probably get help from MS by calling them. If it's OEM, you need to
contact the computer mfr.

Your Ford dealer won't give you a new set of keys just based on your word
that it's your car, right?

No a Ford dealer would not give me keys for my Chevy, as
the Chevy dealer would no also, but then there are not a
bunch of sick f_ _ks trying to disable my chev truk.
The CD that I have is Works Suite, of which Word is a part
of. Luckily, my primary word processor is Corel, I was
not asked for some obscure code to get that application
back up and running.

Check again - correct me if I'm wrong, but as Word is part of MS Office, I
have never seen it bundled as part of MS Works.

No, but running Corel apps leads to tons of other mysterious problems, IMO.
