Not sure what I've got--recently Word (2002 with XP) stopped Opening
files using Ctrl-O or the file menu and won't Save As. I renamed
normal.dot and the problem went away for a bit but returned. I've
scanned with Norton and AVG and neither finds anything. I file I sent
as an email attachment was deleted by a server for having a virus.
Any suggestions welcome.

Granted, it sounds odd. Try running a decent antivirus program. I
recommend VET Antivirus by Computer Assosciates. It isn't free but it's
worth it (it's still considerably less than Norton with the added bonus
that it works ;)
good luck

If you require more assistance or if my suggestion works please E-mail
me at sh4d03 [at] TPG [dot] com [dot] au - please make ensure you insert
the word "Newsgroup" before anything else in the subject line.
Thanks,

Send your current normal.dot to one or more AV developers you trust.
Here is a list of the sample submission addresses of the better-known
AV developers to save you looking them all up -- I'd recommend that
you send the file to more than one of these...

Computer Associates (US) <[email protected]>
Computer Associates (Vet/EZ) <[email protected]>
DialogueScience (Dr. Web) <[email protected]>
Eset (NOD32) <[email protected]>

Rumor has it that Trend's French virus lab accepts files from everyone
and that it will respond in English. I think the address is
(e-mail address removed).
